L'HISTOIRE : Verity Chandler est venue assiter aux funérailles de Chuck Houston, une star et un héros de la guerre. Elle y rencontre Eric Prince, un entrepreneur de pompes funèbres qui a été autrefois son amant. La compagnie de celui-ci est chargée d'organiser la cérémonie. Verity y menace Eric de divulguer qu'il fût jadis l'auteur d'un vol de collier de diamants sur le cadavre d'une actrice...
